Getting From A To B? Now Hire An Electric Car

Ways to deal with the large amounts of greenhouse gases produced by those cars in inner city areas has been a major concern for environmental lobbyists for some time. The car hire industry has been one of the major points of discussion, as has the way in which we use our cars. In Europe especially the drive towards more environmentally friendly forms of transport and more ecologically sound transportation solutions has been gaining pace.

The latest development in this has been from the mayor of Paris. He recently presented plans to allow city dwellers to hire an electric car from various points in the city along a 'pick up and drop off' scheme. The mayor is hoping that by the end of next year there will be almost four thousand electric cars available for hire in the city. Hopefully, those making short journeys will be able to pick up the car in the outskirts and drop it off once they have reached their inner city destination. Of all the capital cities in the world, Paris is taking the first steps towards a more eco-friendly transportation solution.

Some believe that such a scheme could revolutionise transport. He has already expanded the original plans and clearly believes that this is the way to combat rising amounts of greenhouse gases being produce in modern cities. This is a worldwide problem and affects us all; thankfully, at least one official is happy to follow a course that will hopefully reduce smog and be more environmentally friendly. Paris does however have a history of being a forerunner for such schemes. The bikes available for hire in the city have changed the way that residents traverse the capital; the next phase of this is to bring the electric car plans into action.

Schemes like this could be adopted in many cities across the world. Many capitals would benefit from such a scheme that would utilise around seven hundred pick up and drop off points all around the city. As short journeys and city driving are the most harmful to the environment, green campaigners are largely appreciative of the scheme. Such a plan however has only become a reality thanks to advances in GPS technology, allowing system operators to manage the location of vehicles at all times.

The similarities with the bike hire system in place at the moment are hard to dispute, but as this has been a success it is easy to understand why they are incorporating electric cars. Users would have to subscribe to the system along annual basis; however plans are in place to allow a pay as you travel method of payment. Plans may even use a system like London's Oyster card to allow users to pay indirectly for the hire service.

Many cities are facing the problem of overcrowding on the roads and it is hoped that schemes such as this will allow residents to negate the need for owning a car. For instance, a family that only uses their car once a week for shopping would benefit from hiring one instead of owning one. The fact that it is electric cars simply reflects the growing understanding of environmental needs.

Not all green campaigners are entirely happy however. Some argue that instead of catering for people using cars, behaviour should be changed. More important is to increase the use of public transport networks and reduce the congestion on our city roads. In Britain, car sharing schemes are more likely to be adopted over the hire plans used in France. Whatever the arguments surrounding the scheme it is good to see that some officials are trying to create more eco-friendly forms of travel. As the environment becomes an increasingly important factor on the political agenda, solutions like this will undoubtedly become more popular.

What the Marines fail to do in there amphib lift and landing craft analyses, is distinquish between assault aka combat lifts and administrative lifts. Those terms have been used by Combat Cargo Officers and ship loaders for decades. They are doctrine. The cargo type determines its priority and method of loading. Hence the MPS ships are administrative loads aka dense packed to be discharged onto INLS and LCUs and LCMs.

I question why exquisite ships and hi-tech/speedy landing craft are needed for BOTH types of loads? Sure the LCAC and its follow-on (another issue all together) may be needed for quick insertions during assaults, BUT LCU and other displacement or planning craft which do the heavy lifting are needed for admin lifts. I think the USMC has got their mix ALL wrong. More landing craft of the later type are needed because that is what is neeed for sustaiment of the beachhead and LOTS type operations. LCACs etc are essentially one shot deals. So buy less of them.

I am particularly keen on the French CNIM L-cat and the new RN landing craft. Off in the future there may well be a place for SES SeaTrain (if the transoceanic BS is dropped out of the rqmts!)

NO landing craft needs to transit oceans at high speed, period end of story. BTW the JHSV is meant to be forward deployed aka prepostioned. Something that has worked for the Marines since 1980!

Why would you use Condemn on your Baneslayer when it will not go to the graveyard? Also, how would Gaea's Revenge be able to block Baneslayer as Baneslayer also has flying?

Either way, if this scenario was possible, you forgot to take Baneslayer's first strike into account. First Strike means that the creature that has it does it's damage first to the other creature(s). If the amount of damage done would destroy the creature, that creature will go to the graveyard immediately. So in your scenario, Baneslayer will do 5 damage to Geae's, and as the 5 damage will be enough to destroy the creature, Geae's will go to the graveyard before it can do damage to Baneslayer.

There are certain elements of war that could be construed as beautiful, like tracer fire at night, or the burst of a bomb, or the flight of a fully loaded Sandy, but all in all war is horrific and ugly!

Since you obviously know very little about military vehicles, here's a lesson. An armored fighting vehicle (AFV) is protected by armor and armed with weapons. Where is the weapon(s) on the APC used at the YFZ ranch? There is not one.AFVs are divided into separate categories, as follows:Tanks, sometimes known as a main battle tanks, are designed to attack by means of frontal assault using a high velocity main gun (typically 105-120mm) on a traversing turret, and armed with 2-3 machine guns. It is heavily armored, with modern tanks being able to survive hits from other tank main guns and anti-tank missiles. Small arms fire will not penetrate. The US Abrams, the British Challenger, the German Leopard 2, the Russian T-80, and the Israeli Merkava are the current generation of tanks.Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) are lightly armored vehicles that provide small arms protection (.50 caliber will usually penetrate), have firing ports, and a turreted 20-30mm auto cannon with a coaxially mounted machine gun. They are designed for direct combat. Unless also armed with anti-tank missiles, they cannot successfully fight a tank. Current IFVs include the US Bradley, the British Warrior, the German Puma, and the Russian BMP. If you'll note the photos from the ranch, there are neither firing ports nor a turret.Armored personnel carrier (APC) is a thinly armored (none will stop a .50 caliber) used for the transport of personnel. They are not designed to fight or for direct combat, but to carry personnel safely. They do not have firing ports. None can defeat a tank and most cannot defeat an IFV. In times of combat, they are sometimes armed with a machine gun for self-defense. They may be tracked or wheeled. Current versions include the M113, the German Boxer, and the Russian BRDM. No major country uses APCs for combat duty, but relegates them to a support role, to protect personnel from small arms fire.Despite your misinformation, the APC at the Ranch was not armed, it was not a tank, and it was not used for offensive purposes. Now that the you have been educated to the facts, we'll know (if you continue the misinformation) the true nature of your character.]]>
