How to stop a hawk from destroying my window screen?
We have some hawks (or falcons or something really big) around our house. One has taken to attacking a specific upstairs window. It grabs the screen with its talons and has torn a 1 foot hole in it. It keeps coming back to the window over and over. I don't mind replacing the screen but not if it will just come back and ruin it again. I could just remove the screen but would it move on to another? Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening and how I can stop it without using a shotgun (just kidding)?
I suspect the hawk is seeing it's reflection in the glass behind the screen and attacking it. I have seen other birds do this. We had a Redbird once that kepi flying into a particular window pane on the house. I saw it happen several time one year and once or twice the next. I guess he just got tired and left. Try covering the new screen temporarily with something that will stop the reflection from the glass. After the hawk is gone you can remove. Hawks are beautiful birds. I really like to watch them. I have a few good stories too.
