Muzzle Break I want to get a muzzle break for my Remington Model 700 7mm Mag, how do I do that at a reasonable cost?
Check with your local gunsmith. Most competent gunsmiths can install one. It runs about $150. They work fantastic. I just counted -- I have them on eight (8) of my rifles. It makes the kick from that .300 Magnum feel like you are shooting a .270. Going to the shooting range without the muzzel break, you can only get through about a box of .300 Magnum rounds. With the muzzle break --- you can go through 5 boxes and barely feel any pain. It helps you get better groups as well. When you have the crosshairs on target, and are squeezing the trigger, you don't have to worry about getting that big wallop to your body. Your shot groups are much tighter. Just make sure that no one is standing near the muzzle, or in front of you, off to the side. It is a little loud on a big gun. Make sure people around you are either behind you, or away from the muzzle. The muzzle break, and a Timney trigger are the two best investments I make on my rifles.
Muzzle brakes and recoil compensators are devices that are fitted to the muzzle of a firearm or cannon to redirect propellant gases with the effect of countering both recoil of the gun and unwanted rising of the barrel during rapid fire. Muzzle brakes are very useful for combat and timed competition shooting, and are commonly found on rifles firing very large cartridges (often big-game rifles), as well as some artillery and tank guns.
