Which Boat Design Will You Build?

Which boat design will you build? That is a good question... and possibly you still haven't made a decision yet. Once of the best things is that building your own boat is a way to get the boat you want at a price you can afford!

In fact, it is possible to save as much as 50% over the cost of purchasing a manufactured boat. Remember that you don't need to spend a lot of money on fancy tools as you, or someone you know, probably already have all the tools you will need.

Remember that it is probably not your intention to go into a fully automated production mode. You are merely building the boat you want, one time only.

Probably the biggest decision you need to make would be on hull shape and design as this will prepare you for the type of boat you will end up with.

I have purchased and reviewed many boating products, See what I have found out

Flat Bottom:
- These are very stable in calm water and best used at slower speeds.
- This style also makes for a great fishing boat where you need a shallow draft.
- The downside to flat bottom boats are that they are a rough ride and do not handle well at higher speed. And you want to get of the water in bad weather.
- Think of a "John" boat when visualizing the flat bottom style.

"V" Bottom:
- This style of hull is a more traditional one and used by many boat manufacturers.
- It works great a high speeds and handles better in rough water too.
- Speed boats are generally built with variations of the "V" hull style.

There are many factors that come into play when you are deciding upon which type of hull is the best for you.

When you are deciding on the style of boat that you will build, keep in mind a few things. These include the water your boat will be used in, how many people will use the boat at any one time and how you plan to use the boat.

If you just plan on fishing shallow streams or lakes a "Flat" bottom might be more to your liking. However, if you will be water skiing a "V" style is the way to go!

Once you have your ideas in mind you're ready to get at the actual designing of your boat. This is when you will need a quality software package. Probably the best idea is to get some sort of 3D boat design software that is affordable, comes with an extremely low learning curve that makes it easy and flexible to use. As your boat is displayed in 3D, you can automatically see exactly how your boat will appear as a final product and constantly change and improve it until you have the boat design of your dreams.
