Soviet Union

Soviet Union?
In the Soviet Union did any leader besides stalin kill people freely? He is known as possibly the most evil man that ever lived and the soviet union had the "evil" label branded on it. So was the soviet union truly evil or was stalin the only corrupt one?
Lenin killed freely as well. By the time he acquired absolute power, he was too ill and had too little time to perpetrate the kinds of massive purges that Stalin did, but he certainly shared Stalin's ideas about the worthlessness of individuals and the benefits of terror.

Hymn of the Soviet Union
Did Russia used to be called soviet union during world war 2?
I'm doing a project about Germany during the reign of Hitler. I know Germany invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, but could I also say that they were invading Russia as well? Basically what I'm asking is if the soviet union and Russia were the same place during WWII?
The short answer is yes.
The Soviet Union was, supposedly, a conglomeration of 53 "countries". In reality, those "countries" had no attonomy what so ever. It was effectively one big country.
When the Soviet Union broke up, it broke into several countries (I'm sure I'll miss a few, and misspell some of them): Russia, Ukrane, Georgia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Kyrzistan, Uzbeckastan. So, while the modern day country of Russia was in the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union included a number of other states too.
Russia was ruled by the Tzars. During WWI, the communists started a civil war, which eventually took over the country, and took a few other countries too. This war started in 1917. I'm not sure exactly when the Communist takeover was complete, but I'm sure it was done by 1923. When did the Soviet Union break up? The late 1990's?
The "Soviet Union" was known as the U.S.S.R (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), which in Russian comes out C.C.C.P. You may see those acronyms.

It makes no difference if the kids did it to be “provacative”. That’s the whole point. Why would the Mexicans take offense to the flag of THE COUNTRY THEY ARE IN? It completely exposes the culture and upbringing these Mexican kids are subject to from their first and second generation parents. Mexicans have one thing on their mind; reclaiming the southwest states back into Mexico. The apology given by the Superintendent of that school was a disgrace. He refused to acknowledge that the “incendiary” environment was caused by the misguided mindset of the Mexican students. And Ebert just exposed himself for the goof he is. How do you even compare this incident to that of wearing a Soviet Union flag on the 4th? That’s a foreign flag. The only proper example to use would be to go to Mexico, celebrate the 4th of July, and then get mad at anybody showing support for Mexico. Yeah, good luck with that. The white people in this country better start reading the demographic predictions because there are some troubling ideas out there about where we are heading. Do we really want to let the combined minorities claim majority status in this country? Think of the potential danger that represents for votes.

> Since the first thing that my suggestion of a “third way” between socialism and capitalism triggered in your mind was the Soviet Union, history’s most infamous bastardization of leftist political philosophy, you didn’t suggest a “third way” between socialism and capitalism, you said *”well disciplined, thoroughly regulated, and manually distributed economy”*. Do you know what you even meant by this, you wrote it, therefore you should. * Saying “well disciplined” means that someone (i.e. the government) will need to impose strict laws to supervise the economy. * Saying “thoroughly regulated” is fairly obviously a government controlled marketplace. * Saying ” manually distributed” means that the government decides what jobs people have. You have described a centrally planned economy to a t. That doesn’t “trigger” a reference to the USSR, that was the USSR. Centrally planned economies are fully proven to be a failure and trying to call the USSR a “bastardization” doesn’t mean that a second attempt at the same strategy will work any better.

It’s interesting that WSJ chose a picture of people waving the old SOVIET UNION FLAG to post along on this article. It’s kinda funny..

Because that's what Ahmadinejad said, as much as apologists try to deny it.
