Trim Adjustment Will some added weight effect the operation of an overhead garage door?
i want to add decorative 1"x1" wood trim spaced 16" apart on my single overhead garage door which measures 8'x7'.i want the appearance to match the rest of the house. will this added weight effect the operation of the door? any adjustments that need to be made for the automatic opener? thanks.
It's not really going to add that much more weight, especially for that small of a door. When they install a garage door, the technician installs and adjusts the springs such that it takes about 20 pounds of force for the opener to open and close the door. Adding that little of weight (a few pounds at the most) won't really affect the operation. There's also a tension control adjustment on the opener motor that allows you to adjust how much tension the motor will feel before it stops operating. This prevents a door opener from trying to close a door, for example, that came down on a car or something. Without this feature, the opener would keep trying to close the door and eventually burn itself out. If the added weight trips this safety feature when opening the door, you can adjust the tension control so the opener can deal with the additional weight.
I was helping my friend change his water pump on this engine and while putting it back together I noticed his trim tab had no adjustment to it and I asked him about it and he said that while out on the lake one day he lost his trim tab and this is what they said fit his boat motor and since he replaced it he noticed that the boat motor pulls to the right , I have never seen a trim tab that couldn't be adjusted did they give him the wrong one.?
Sure sounds that way Denis, it might be a cheap after- -market one. Take it back and get the original manufactures part for it, just might fix that pulling problem. Maybe ask him if the boat pulled before the lost trim tab.
